Move More, Season Smarter
The holidays are a time for family, tradition—and let’s be honest, heavy eating. But for many, this season can also bring something else: a spike in blood pressure. One big reason? The way we season our food.
Recipes passed down through generations are rich in flavor, culture, and—unfortunately—salt. While you don’t have to skip a plate at your mom’s house, maybe it’s time to help her switch it up this year. Instead of processed seasonings packed with sodium, try fresh herbs and spices like garlic, onion, pepper, and cilantro. These boost flavor without raising blood pressure. If you need to use salt, reach for pink Himalayan sea salt, which is a more natural alternative to white table salt.
Another trick? Drink water between courses. It keeps you hydrated and helps curb overeating.
And then, there’s movement. A brisk walk before and after a big meal can help digestion and keep your blood pressure in check. Even better—invite the whole family. Turn it into a new holiday tradition.
Starting a simple workout routine 2–3 times a week now will help you enter the new year feeling strong and in control of your health.
This season, let’s celebrate with joy, flavor, and a little more movement. Your heart will thank you for it.
