As soon as we see the clear blue sky and feel the warmth of the sun, we want to spend time outdoors. We already know that exercise itself provides mental and physical benefits, but did you know that depending on the location it can increase those benefits?
Being outside and breathing fresh air can help fight some seasonal disorders, depression, and anxiety. Sunlight naturally increases serotonin, a hormone that affects your mood. It can work on a physiological level by lowering blood pressure and cortisol (the stress hormone) while also enhancing your immune system. Along with this, exercise produces endorphins, another feel-good hormone that boosts your mood and reduces pain. By exercising outdoors, you will be happier, your self-esteem will improve, your vitamin D levels will go up, you will raise your heart rate, strengthen your muscles, and burn a ton of calories.
Staying active outside can also be a lot of fun. There are a variety of outdoor activities that you can try like hiking, walking, swimming, bike riding, kayaking etc.
Most high-intensity workouts can be done outside as well with minimal equipment. A park bench can be a great workout tool. For the best cardio burn, try jumping rope, running upstairs, or sprinting. Sit-ups, push-ups, and planks all work great and can be done outdoors.
So, grab your sunblock, the right shoes, and a water bottle, and go outside. Give love to your body along with some sun. Give it a try to different outdoor activities to see which ones you enjoy the most. We recommend talking with your doctor first before starting an exercise routine.
