After discussing the different topics and needs within our community, we identified four key areas where we believe we can make a meaningful difference: prevention, early detection, communication, and emotional support.
One of the initiatives that has had a significant impact on our community was our collaboration with Reading Hospital, which allowed us to provide free mammograms to those who needed them. This experience reinforced for us how important access to prevention and early detection can be.
We also want to emphasize the importance of having someone you trust by your side when facing cancer. A trusted family member, friend, or community advocate can help interpret information, facilitate communication with healthcare providers, ask important questions, and make sure that patients and their families understand the information they receive.
At Sociedad Hispana del Cáncer Pennsylvania, we want to continue opening our doors to our community and reminding everyone that we are here to walk alongside you. We are committed to providing support, guidance, and a sense of companionship—just as a family member or close friend would—so that no patient or family has to face this journey feeling alone.
We also invite you to join us for our 3rd Annual Cancer Awareness Walk, taking place on October 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The walk will begin at the intersection of Penn Street and 5th Street in Reading, PA.
Official T-shirts are available for $25 for anyone who would like to show their support and participate in the walk.
Together, we can raise awareness, encourage early detection, offer support, and remind every person affected by cancer that they are not alone.
