October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a reminder that taking care of ourselves is one of the most important things we can do for the people we love.
Breast cancer does not always cause symptoms in its early stages. That is why regular mammograms are so important. Screening can find breast cancer early, when it may be easier to treat. For many women, an early diagnosis can open the door to more treatment options and better outcomes.
Tower Health recommends that women at average risk begin annual screening mammograms at age 40. Women with a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors may need to begin screening earlier or follow a different schedule. Talk with your healthcare provider about when you should begin and how often you should be screened.
For many women, family comes first. We care for our children, parents, partners, and loved ones, sometimes putting our own health at the bottom of the list. But making time for a mammogram is an act of self-care and an investment in the future of our families.
Remember, screening is your best defense, and early detection can be a game changer. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, make your health a priority. Tower Health offers mammography at convenient locations throughout Berks, Chester and Montgomery counties, as well as through our Mobile Mammography Coach.
