Anytime someone asks me what my hobbies are, I answer something like old SFI movies, old TV series or Zentangle drawings. But this question always catches me off guard. So, I looked for a hobby I can be proud of. My first idea was to research the current hobbies that people are doing. But not of them motivated me enough, then I thought I need to find something more exciting for me. So, I looked for the techiest geekiest hobby that people are practicing now. And these were my results:
First, I looked at several blogs and I got some hobby ideas like learn photography, learn how to homebrew beer, play poker, wine tasting, hiking, camping, genealogy, thrifting (shopping at a thrift store, flea market or garage sale) or fishing.
All are very interesting activities but nothing geeky enough for my taste. Then, I continued on my research, but I added words like geeky and everything got better.
My search showed hobbies like building PCs from collected components, lock picking, origami, geocaching, Home Automation, Raspberry PI, create electronic music, 3D printing, VR or cosplaying.
It amazed me the variety of these new and exciting hobbies. I did origami and it was fun for two weeks, but I got bored, then I tried electronic music but my lack of knowledge of music get me frustrated (still learning). After that, I tried 3D printing, and I was engaged for a long time, but it takes a lot of time to see the results and learn how to print a model properly (I like it a lot), then I tried Virtual Reality using my cellphone, but it was not a fluid experience (Still looking for a better way).
So, this is an ongoing search but doing that and practicing some hobbies I realized the part, that amazes me the most, is when I experience new geeky things, new technologies, new apps, new gadgets maybe this is my hobby. Hope these ideas can help you find a new and exciting hobby for you.
Until next time…
