Carlos Gomez Named General Manager of DoubleTree Reading
PALO: Congratulations on your promotion to General Manager of the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading. What does this new role mean to you?
Carlos Gomez: Thank you. It’s truly an honor. My career has always centered around hospitality, culinary excellence, and leadership, so stepping into this role feels like a natural evolution. I’m excited to continue strengthening the guest experience, workplace culture, and overall vision for the hotel.
PALO: You previously served as Vice President of Food & Beverage and Executive Chef. How did that prepare you for this position?
Carlos Gomez: Food and beverage touches nearly every part of hotel operations, guest satisfaction, events, finances, and team development. That experience gave me a strong understanding of how every department works together while also allowing me to build meaningful relationships with both staff and guests.
PALO: Your career spans more than 30 years with brands like Hilton, Marriott, and Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts. What shaped your leadership style most?
Carlos Gomez: Working in luxury resorts, convention hotels, and destinations across the United States and Caribbean taught me the importance of consistency, innovation, and people-first leadership. Hospitality is ultimately about creating memorable experiences for people.
PALO: What moments stand out most in your culinary career?
Carlos Gomez: Becoming the first Puerto Rican appointed Executive Chef at the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel was a defining moment. I’m also proud to have cooked internationally and prepared meals for Presidents Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. In addition, I’m honored to have received numerous culinary awards, appeared on international television programs, and hosted my own weekly cooking series, “What’s on the Menu?”
PALO: What motivates you today?
Carlos Gomez: Hospitality is about service and impact; whether mentoring employees, creating memorable guest experiences, or helping a property grow. That opportunity to positively affect people continues to inspire me every day.
