What is stopping you from starting your own business? Is it the fear of failure? Are you waiting for your life to be in order before you take the risk? The only obstacle between you and your dreams is you.
My name is Kimberly Batista. I am 18 years old, a proud alumna of Reading Muhlenberg Career and Technology Center (RCMTC), and the successful owner of my own business: Braided by Kimberlyle, LLC.
When I was 14, I started braiding hair. At first, I was shy and had trouble communicating with my clients. I knew I had to push myself if I wanted to have my own business. I worked hard, stayed focused, and developed my plan. I’ve learned that you are the greatest project you’ll ever work on!
Joining the Cosmetology program at RMCTC was the best decision I’ve ever made. At CTC, I developed my skills and techniques. During my internship, I gained valuable experience, accumulated required state hours, and built my clientele. I got my cosmetology license a year early, and now I have a salon suite and over 80 loyal, consistent clients all at the age of 18! I received so much support and guidance from my teachers at CTC and will always be grateful to them.
Starting a business is not easy; you have to be consistent and disciplined in everything you do. I have had to learn everything from permits to taxes to all the key factors that allow a business to run smoothly. I had to reach out to business leaders and learned that the response I received depended on the quality of my questions! I overcame obstacles by doing my research to ensure I got good information.
In the next three years, I want to own a suite salon and sell my braiding products, courses, and ebooks online. I am currently taking a digital marketing course and can’t wait to continue my journey.
