From August 4–8, 2025, Reading experienced a one-of-a-kind celebration of culture and community with Raíces de Solidaridad, a five-day cultural experience organized by RIZE Youth Arts, in partnership with the Puerto Rican Civic Association and the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Berks County. This youth-led and elder-guided camp focused on cultural preservation, community storytelling, and intergenerational healing through the arts.
Participants engaged in workshops on Bomba y Plena, documentary filmmaking with elders, and youth-centered healing arts programming. The week culminated on August 8th with the Vibrant Culture Dance Experience, an event that brought the entire community together to celebrate Puerto Rican culture with live music, dance, and cultural expression.
The event was filled with energy, and even Mayor Eddie Moran joined the festivities, dancing alongside the crowd, embodying the joy and unity of the night. Visiting artists from Puerto Rico were warmly welcomed, making the evening a true reflection of Reading’s love for culture and connection.
It was a powerful week of learning, expression, and healing through the arts.
