Pets are an important part of many families. According to estimates from the Census Bureau, in 2019 there were 201,223 pets in Berks County. Taking care of these animals can become a burden and even more so when situations at home prevents their owners from continuing to meet their needs.
With this in mind, the Animal Rescue League of Berks County joined the Palo Magazine team of contributors to provide readers with monthly tips and valuable resources for an optimal quality of life for their pets.
ARL is a 501©3 non-profit whose expert personnel cares for nearly 5,000 animals each year, helps them find a home or reunites them with their families. Founded in 1952 by Mary Archer, the ARL team works tirelessly to care for sick animals, heal the injured, offer comfort to the rejected, and protect those who are victims of cruelty.
Our mission has evolved over the years and the integration of the community in efforts to protect and care for animals has taken a central post. Given that this community is diverse in many ways, inclusion and diversity within the work team is a priority in our strategic plan.
Currently, in the organization we have 6 people of Hispanic origin, and we are preparing to recruit more personnel who can offer services in Spanish to meet the needs of our community.
