Q&A With Christian Santos of Movers & Co.
Christian Santos, founder and owner of Movers & Co., has spent the past decade building his Lancaster County company from a one-man operation into a team of 15 with three trucks. But for Santos, success is about more than business. Through his Move It Forward program, he is using his company to help local families in need.
Palo Magazine: Christian, tell us about your journey.
Santos: I’m Puerto Rican, originally from Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. I’ve been in Lancaster County for about 25 years. I started Movers & Co. as a three-man operation while working full-time as an engineer. Eventually, I had to make the decision to leave engineering and go all-in on the business. It was a big risk, but it was the right decision for me.
Palo Magazine: What inspired you to start a moving company?
Santos: I saw an opportunity to build something of my own and create a company people could trust. Moving can be stressful because you’re dealing with your home and often a major life transition. From the beginning, I wanted us to focus not only on doing quality work, but on treating people with care and respect.
Palo Magazine: Movers & Co. has grown considerably. What does that mean to you?
Santos: It means a lot because I remember where we started. Going from one person to a team of 15 and three trucks is something I’m very proud of. But what means the most is the trust we’ve built in the community. People recommend us because they believe in the service we provide.
Palo Magazine: Tell us about Move It Forward.
Santos: Every month, we donate a free local move to a Lancaster family in need. Families can be nominated by community members, and we select someone who could truly use the help.
There are families going through incredibly difficult circumstances who need to move but simply can’t afford it. We realized that moving is something we can provide, so we asked ourselves, “Why not use what we do to help?”
Palo Magazine: What has the response been like?
Santos: Amazing. We’ve already helped three families, including single mothers and families facing difficult circumstances. Local nonprofits have also started partnering with us to help identify families who could benefit.
Palo Magazine: What do you hope Move It Forward becomes?
Santos: I want it to grow and become a lasting part of the Lancaster community. Giving back doesn’t always mean writing a check. Sometimes you can look at what you already have, your skills, your business, or your time, and find a way to help someone else.
Palo Magazine: What has entrepreneurship taught you?
Santos: “That isn’t always a clear answer.” “You must make decisions, take risks, and learn from your mistakes. I’ve also learned that growth takes time. You have to stay consistent and keep showing up, even when things aren’t easy.
Palo Magazine: Movers & Co. was just named Best Moving Company in Lancaster in the 2026 LNP Readers’ Choice Awards, becoming the first company to receive the award. What does that recognition mean to you?
Santos: It’s incredibly meaningful to me. I grew up as a kid in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, and today I own a company that this community has chosen as the best moving company in Lancaster. To build something in a completely different place, earn people’s trust, create jobs, and now receive this recognition is something I never take for granted.
To me, that’s the American Dream. It’s not just about owning a successful business. It’s about coming somewhere with an opportunity, working hard, building something from the ground up, and becoming part of the community. Being the first moving company to ever receive this award makes it even more special, and I’m extremely proud of the team that helped us get here.”
Palo Magazine: How can people get involved with Move It Forward?
Santos: The program is open to community nominations, and we’re also working with local nonprofits to identify families who could benefit. We want people to know that we’re serious about helping and that we’re here for the community.
