In October 2021, Latino members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, led by state Rep. Angel Cruz, took a major step forward. Recognizing that Pennsylvania’s Latino community had long been underserved — both in access to critical information and in representation at the decision-making table — they came together with a shared commitment to change that reality. From that effort, the Pennsylvania Legislative Latino Caucus was born.
With Cruz serving as our first chair, the PLLC set out to ensure that the voices and interests of Latinos, Latinas, Hispanics, and all people of color in Pennsylvania are heard in the General Assembly. Now, as I serve as chair during the 2025-26 legislative session, I am proud to build on that foundation by expanding our reach, strengthening our legislative capacity, and delivering real, substantive improvements that benefit our communities and all Pennsylvanians.
As we approach our fifth anniversary, we can point to meaningful progress. The caucus has grown to 25 members, most of whom represent legislative districts with significant Latino populations. Eight of our members are of Latino descent, including the first state senator to join our ranks — James Malone of Lancaster.
Together, we have worked to expand Latino representation across the Commonwealth by forging strong partnerships, advancing impactful legislation, and celebrating the rich diversity of Pennsylvania’s Latino community. We have also led efforts to cut taxes, secure critical resources for our schools, and keep our communities safe — demonstrating that when our voices are included, Pennsylvania is stronger for it.
