I used to think “making money” meant waiting for my next birthday card or picking up the occasional babysitting gig. But lately, I’ve realized there are so many ways to earn, and its actually kind of fun. One of my biggest discoveries? Selling things online. Platforms like Facebook Marketplace and Depop have become my go-to money makers. That hoodie I never wore or the sneakers I outgrew. Someone out there wants them, and they’re willing to pay.
What surprised me most is how quickly small sales add up. Listing an item takes just a few minutes, and negotiating with buyers teaches real-world communication skills. I’ve learned to price my items fairly, take good photos, and stay patient because the right buyer always comes along.
Saving has become another intentional part of my routine. Instead of spending everything right away, I set goals: a summer trip, a new phone, or even just a cushion for the unexpected. Watching my savings grow is motivating, and it makes each sale feel more meaningful.
The biggest lesson? You don’t need a full-time job to start building smart money habits. With a little effort and creativity, earning and saving as a teen is totally achievable and incredibly empowering.
