The holiday season brings joy and cherished memories for many. But for factory workers, it can also be one of the most stressful times of the year. As factories ramp up production, distribution and sales to meet demand, the result is often increased overtime, fewer breaks and tighter deadlines. Shortcuts taken under pressure can lead to serious injuries.
Even during the busiest weeks, safety should never be compromised. Many jobs require PPE, such as gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection. PPE is your last line of defense when there are no other controls protecting you from a specific hazard. Never put your safety at risk. Always wear company-provided PPE. If you’re unsure how to perform a task safely, report to your supervisor immediately.
Your responsibility for a safe and healthy work life goes beyond the plant floor. During peak seasons, it’s common for workers to sacrifice time with family, rest and personal health to fulfill job demands or earn extra income. Make a list of your priorities and decide what’s best for both you and your loved ones. Organize your schedule so you can meet work demands and still take time for yourself and your family.
As the season speeds up and tasks pile high, stay vigilant for your own safety, and for your well-being. Meeting deadlines is important, but not at the cost of your health or time with your loved ones. Use the tools, schedule your breaks, wear your PPE, and consciously protect both your body and your mind.
