We live in a world in which our daily activities (such as sitting, standing, using our phones, etc.) contribute to bad posture. We also have jobs with repetitive activities (such as typing, lifting, driving, etc.) that add wear and tear to our muscles and tendons; this is even more evident in our senior population.
Practicing Ergonomic principles should be a priority. Simple changes—like using chairs that support the lower back and arranging workspaces to minimize strain—can significantly enhance posture and enjoy daily activities without discomfort.
Also, a discipline such as Yoga has been proven to help strengthen your postural muscles, helping you relieve some of the muscular pain and to help you breathe better. Regular practice can be beneficial for overall well-being.
Tai chi, often called “meditation in motion,” focuses on slow, deliberate movements that enhance balance and coordination. Practicing Tai Chi allows for greater focus and connection to the body; this way reducing the risk of falls.
As we age, staying active and comfortable is vital. Seniors are encouraged to adopt ergonomic principles at home, along with incorporating Yoga and Tai Chi into their daily routine. The combination of these creates a comprehensive approach to senior wellness empowering them to maintain their independence and enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle.
As a chiropractor, I encourage not only Senior citizens but everyone to embrace these practices to enhance physical health and promote a balanced, vibrant life.
