The Institute of Dominicans Abroad (@indexdomrd) recognized 21 students of Dominican origin who stood out abroad for their academic and civic achievements, an initiative that is part of a program that fosters the bond of young Dominicans.
Two local Berks County young Dominicans Andrés Rodríguez Ogando and Ysabella Delgado Valdez were among those students who traveled to DR and participated in the event “Recognition of Outstanding Dominican Students Abroad”, an initiative of “Instituto Nacional de Dominicanos en el Exterior”, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX). The recognition ceremony, headed by the vice minister and executive director of INDEX, Carlos de la Mota, is dedicated to highlighting and valuing the exceptional academic achievements and leadership of students of Dominican origin overseas.
Andrés Rodríguez, whose parents are from the Dominican Republic, stands out for his passion for leadership and his commitment to helping others, reflected in his notable academic record and in his extracurricular activities that contribute to the community.
Ysabella Delgado Valdez had a great experience, being Dominican by birth and always feeling proud of her origins and culture. They were excited that in addition, they visited various museums and emblematic places in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo while living an immersive technology experience at the facilities of @mirexrd.
These young talents are a source of pride for our Latin community. They have shown that, despite being outside their parent’s country of origin or their own, they keep their roots alive thanks to their upbringing and instilled values. They are a clear example of how Hispanic identity and pride transcend borders. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!
