My name is Jadalys Nunez, and I am a senior at Reading High School and in the Institutional Foods Program at Reading Muhlenberg Career & Technology Center. In our program, we learn how to cook, clean, and organize inventory. My favorite area is cooking. We make all types of bread, donuts, soup, and all types of food. We also help to cater events at our school.
Ms. Firing is an amazing instructor because she helps us learn a lot about how to cook and be safe in all that we do in our program! She also teaches us how to communicate and how to be kind in the kitchen! My instructional assistant Ms. Nicholas also helps us learn too!
Last year, I had the opportunity to complete an internship here at RMCTC in the cafeteria with the help of Career Link. I learned about working with others by prepping breakfast, restocking kitchen supplies, and making some of the food. I also worked with an amazing staff who helped me feel comfortable learning new skills. Mr. Summons also helped me to learn workplace skills! Attending RMCTC enabled me to intern with food services at the Reading Phillies. At the R-Phils, I work in a variety of food concession areas for many games! The key to this internship is that you need to move quickly to serve many fans to keep them well-fed! Mr. Hart, Director of Food and Beverage for the Phils, has helped me interview and find the best places for me to experience a little bit of everything to help me grow in service.
My love of food came from my aunt who works in a bakery in Puerto Rico. When I graduate from RMCTC and Reading High, I hope to use my experience in the field. RMCTC has helped me to learn a lot so that I can realize my dream of someday opening a bakery and serving my community!
