Most Employees are promoted because they do one thing great or several things very well; however, when you are promoted… your old job is not your new job! Your job is your People + your new administrative tasks + fulfilling endeavors with High Results due to the accountability of your Team. Too many Leaders get themselves in trouble by staying in the weeds and YES… you may be able to do those weed jobs faster and better than your People, but that’s not Leadership!
Be mindful to not only select people who fit the desired culture of your team, enhance connection, reduce friction and obstacles, and get results… but also to DELEGATE! To be honest, you will have to white-knuckle through a few tasks and projects while they inevitably make mistakes and make the process their own. But once they get it and soar… I promise you will never want that task back!
This also happens in our personal lives and relationships! No one does that task at home quite like you, everyone will mess it up when they do it… you redo it. Well, you will always be doing it; as you have taught them their way is not good enough, they can never do it right, and you are going to do it anyway so why bother? Sometimes, “DONE” is better than “Your Perfect” … Be Mindful!
