PM: TELL US WHO YOU ARE AND WHERE YOU’RE FROM.
RM: My name is Rosaury Mota owner of Luxus Boutique located in West Reading, Pa. I was born in Miches, a charming town in the Dominican Republic. At the age of 12, I moved to the capital, Santo Domingo, where I completed high school and began my career in Civil Engineering. However, my true passion was always in fashion, which led me to open my first boutique at the age of 20. This adventure involved importing branded clothing from the United States to sell in Miches. Although the business did not prosper as I expected, I was not discouraged and decided to look for new opportunities in the United States.
PM: THE AMERICAN DREAM, HOW IS IT GOING?
RM: Three years after arriving in the United States, I opened my first business, in a multi-service center, as a tax preparer. I soon realized that this was not my true passion, which prompted me to study Business Administration at Berks Technical Institute (BTI). In order to get into BTI, I took several English courses through churches that offered these courses for free. Balancing my studies with multiple jobs, including Amazon, I faced numerous challenges, especially due to language barriers. However, my determination and efforts allowed me to improve my English and finally obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Alvernia University.
PM: HAVE YOU HAD ANY CHALLENGES ALONG THE WAY?
RM: In 2013, I launched Luxus Boutique, inspired by my first experiences selling bags, shoes, and clothes during my university years in the Dominican Republic. The initial stages of the boutique were incredibly challenging. I had to balance my studies, work, and the emotional burden of caring for my mother, who was battling cancer. Tragically, seven months after opening Luxus, my mother passed away. The boutique became a refuge and a source of strength during this difficult period, demonstrating my ability to find strength in the darkest of times.
PM: HAS THE BOUTIQUE THRIVED?
RM: Over the past 11 years, Luxus Boutique has grown into a successful business, thanks to the unwavering support of my loyal customers and my tireless dedication. Despite numerous challenges, the boutique has thrived. In December 2021, I completed my bachelor’s degree while pregnant with my first child, receiving my diploma from the University of Alvernia shortly after giving birth. Luxus Boutique originally opened on 9th Street in the city of Reading, but I recently moved to the West Reading area, a vibrant community that has warmly welcomed my business.
