Ask a curly girl what her biggest hair struggle is and nine times out of ten she is going to tell you “Hair growth”. For the record, our hair does grow, however, it may be hard to see the growth because of our shrinkage. Sidenote: shrinkage is a good thing; it means that our curls are healthy. Nonetheless, our shrinkage leads us to feel like our curls are shorter than they are.
Nowadays there are a plethora of hair vitamins on the market that claim to make our hair grow, this can make it confusing when we need to select the perfect hair supplement for us. For my clients, my suggestion is to try a vitamin for at least 3 months. That is about how long it will take for you to see results. Something else that I like to point out is that genetics play a role in hair growth and that some of us are more predisposed to having longer hair than others. Lastly, our bodies are unique, and we need to find the right combination of ingredients to help us achieve our desired hair length.
These are ingredients to look out for in your hair vitamin:
Vitamins A, C, D, and E, Zinc, iron, Biotin, Folic Acid (Vitamin B11). Herbs like saw palmetto, horsetail, and ashwagandha. Oils like coconut oil, vitamin E oil, pumpkin seed oil, peppermint oil, rosemary, tea tree, and thyme oil also claim to help.
I would like to stress that our bodies are unique, and we need to find the right combination of ingredients to help us achieve our desired hair length. If you try a vitamin and you do not see results take note of the ingredients contained in this vitamin as well as the amounts of those ingredients and switch to a different supplement. Keep trying until you find the perfect supplement for you.
