I visit the GoggleWorks at least once a month for a project that I work on. I found myself complaining to myself that I had to walk to the Washington Street entrance versus the parking lot entrance. However, since I had arrived early this day, I decided to visit the Berks Launch Box to learn a bit more about their programs. Upon exiting their space, I walked out to the hallway and saw a roll of easels with drawings and information. I took a minute to read them, and I realized that the reason the entrance to the parking lot is temporarily closed is because something big is coming. I quickly found myself embarrassed for my earlier thinking as I know life has taught me that to grow and expand, we must make sacrifices. I am so grateful for taking a minute to read the signs and not just walking past them.
The GoggleWorks is experiencing enormous growth at this time, extending the campus to include an art park. The Art Park broke ground in late 2023 and the completion date is not set but they are looking at later in 2024. I cannot wait for the grand opening of this great extended additional space.
Their Shared Dream:
“Our shared dream is that the Art Park becomes our vibrant town square, the heart, and soul of our blossoming city,” said Sandy Solmon, GoggleWorks board chair and chair of the GoggleWorks Art Park committee. “It will be so beautiful, so green, so welcoming, and so collaborative that all aspects of our diverse community will pour onto our grounds, inviting participation inside our walls as well. And in this creative hub, the making and sharing of art and conversation will transform each of our lives and ultimately our community.”
What Does this Mean for the Community?
A public café, performance space, outdoor market, seating, shade, vegetation, public art, pedestrian & bike access. A metalsmith & learning pavilion, media, and music center, public performance stage, festival infrastructure, community events, food, bar, and much more.
Stop by and see the work in progress and look at the detailed plans that are displayed outside the Launch Box location. This is already a great place, and it is only going to get better.
