My name is Austin Forrester, and I am a senior intern in the Advertising Design/Commercial Art program (ADC) at RMCTC. This position presents a unique set of challenges that require a combination of creativity, artistic skill, adaptability, and effective communication. As part of my internship, I have designed posters for the school highlighting various programs we offer, a T-shirt design for our class, and many of the ads featured in this very magazine, including this one. Balancing these various demands requires that I quickly grasp the school’s design needs and use my artistic skills to meet their expectations.
Tight deadlines often characterize the ADC environment, adding another layer of complexity. Being a design student means that I must learn to succeed and thrive under pressure while producing high-quality work within very limited time frames. This experience has not only sharpened my time management skills but has also tested my ability to maintain creativity and innovation in fast-paced settings.
Effective communication and the ability to accept and incorporate constructive criticism is crucial for success in graphic design. Sometimes I encounter technical challenges as well, such as software issues or bugs within the Adobe software or even the computer system itself. Adapting to these unforeseen obstacles requires a quick response and the ability to implement design concepts within those constraints.
Using all the skills I learned here at RMCTC, I placed first at the district Skills USA competition and will be competing at the state competition in Hershey this April. I was also recently accepted into the Communication Design program at Kutztown University for the fall 2024 semester. I have truly designed my own future at RMCTC!
