February is the time to celebrate Black History Month and our country’s African American heritage and contributions. It is also a time to examine how addiction impacts African Americans.
As the SOS Berks Opioid Coalition takes on the challenge of responding to the opioid crisis, the needs of African Americans are one of the Coalition’s priorities. A review of overdose deaths, both at a local and national level, has found that African Americans are disproportionally impacted by the opioid epidemic. While African Americans may face more barriers to treatment, SOS Berks is committed to finding solutions to these barriers and continues to focus its resources on the needs of communities of color.
During Black History Month, visit the SOSBerks.org website and blogs to learn about our local efforts and how you can honor Black History through your support of recovery.
