More than ever, I realized that Black people in the community are not being highlighted at all or enough for their community work. There are leaders out there that should be given credit for all they are doing in this community especially because lots of it revolves around our youth.
There are so many Black leaders in this community who are unsung heroes that should be supported and recognized more, especially because the ones that I know are not doing this for the cameras they are doing this for their and our children, no strings attached, no hidden agendas. Yes, when some parents cannot or will not, they are doing it. And best of all, they are doing it from the bottom of their hearts.
In this edition, Palo Magazine is highlighting on the cover Tillman Sims for his outstanding work with the community, especially the younger generation. When he calls upon us for donations, we say yes because we know where that money is truly headed. In this edition, we also share the stories of “The Real Deal” Seleda Simmons, and Stephan Fains, a father of six who is always out there giving back to other people’s kids. These are just three examples of the many great Black leaders of our community, but Berks County is full of these types of leaders.
If you are looking to donate, sponsor or volunteer seek these leaders and I guarantee you will not regret it. Sometimes it is difficult to give to certain organizations because you do not know where the donation will end but just by following their social media pages you will see that these three individuals are doing true authentic work. Let us support our Black people like they deserve to be supported, they are doing great things that are impacting the youth in our community. Even though we should appreciate the Black community all year long, but make sure to celebrate them extra in February.
