My name is Zachary Majors, and I am the new Welding Instructor at Reading Muhlenberg Career and Technology Center. I am also a 2002 graduate of the Advertising Design program at Reading Muhlenberg CTC. I served as a photojournalist/combat correspondent in the Marines from 2008-2012.
I was going to stay in my art/design field, but an event changed my life. My parents had a house fire and lost everything. I came back to PA to help them rebuild. Since there was not much money, I used salvaged barn wood to make custom tables to sell on Etsy to help my parents. Through my design and video production experience with Mr. Simons at RMCTC, I always liked making items and the process of creating. I especially enjoyed working with metal and wood. It was then that I decided to go to welding school in Allentown on the GI bill to build upon my capacity for metalwork. I obtained a position as a welder with Apex Fabrication in Boyertown.
I bought a house specifically to have a shop for metal fabrication. After getting laid off from Apex and during COVID, I finally completed my last goal to return to Thaddeus Stevens and complete my degree in computer-integrated machining (CNC). My early interest in welding has extended to my daughter who is training to become a welder too.
When I discovered that the position to teach welding at RMCTC was open, I realized teaching is what I always wanted to do and jumped at the chance to return to where I started! RMCTC was where it all began, and I am passionate about sharing my experience and love for my career with my welding students.
