Come with me on my journey towards decorating your home for the holidays with simple tips by Olga Pérez-Rosa… It is best to start Christmas preparation well in advance, I take inventory of what I have, what to recycle, a theme for this year’s Christmas tree, and finally, and most importantly a budget.
There are many themes to choose from, for example, White Christmas, Traditional, Minimalist, Organic, theme trees such as Nutcrackers, Grinch, Candy Land, A Favorite Color, Nativity Scenes, or whatever your creative mind desires.
Step-by-step tips on how to decorate your Christmas tree:
- Before starting to assemble the tree, make sure that the tree lights work.
- Next assemble the tree and open each of the tree branches. This step is very important because it allows you to move the branches and cover any gaps you may have in the tree.
- It is time to choose if you want to add additional lights to the tree. I add bright fairy lights that have many variations on them, are battery operated, and have a timer on them.
- The following step is to add a combination of green and frosted branches; this helps fill any large gaps in the tree.
- The creative process starts by working on the tree topper, use your imagination.
- Next add ribbons, bows, and garlands to your tree. You can combine ribbons with the colors that are in your ornaments; this adds cohesiveness and balance to the tree.
- Now place the decorative Christmas ornaments on the tree. My advice is to distribute them evenly so that there is visual balance in your tree. I recommend that you distribute them by adding small-sized decorations at the top, medium ones at the middle of the tree, and large ones at the bottom of the tree.
- Finally, add your tree skirts and gift boxes that coordinate with your decoration. Use your imagination.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
