I love so many things about the autumn season. I love pumpkin recipes, the cooler weather, hot cocoa, the nice variations of fall soups, and outdoor fire pits. I love the feeling when I walk in my house and it feels warm and cozy, I read more books during this time, and my all-time favorite is the changing of the colors of the leaves. They remind me that everything must change in order to grow or regenerate. As the leaves must go through their journey of change, so do we. This is why I dedicated this issue to Senior Citizens because if someone has lived to see the many cycles of life just like the changing leaves it’s the seniors.
When we think of seniors, we tend to associate them with death, illnesses, and lack of life but that is far from the truth, yes eventually we must all die and the older you get the closer you are to death, but you are still alive, there is still LIFE within in you and seniors actually represent the true meaning of LIFE because they have lived longer.
This is why we chose Julia Domena to be featured on our cover. At almost 70 she is the meaning of LIFE to us. She continues to be productive, and inspiring and she still contributes to the growth of our community and her culture and has been for decades and this is something that many people tend to forget.
But the one thing we must not forget is that just like any younger human being, seniors also have the desire to feel significant and we need to not take that away from them. We need to love them and teach the younger generation to appreciate them for what they gave or continue to give on this earth. We need to find time to spend with them not out of pity but rather out of admiration and to learn from them and hear their stories. Also don’t forget to thank them and tell them that that you appreciate that they paved the way for us. ¡Seniors are badass!
