Get moving with the Berks County Parks this summer! Our Parks (Angora Fruit Farm, Antietam Lake, Berks Leisure Area, Gring’s Mill, the Berks County Heritage Center and Stonecliffe Recreation Area) provide ample opportunity to walk, run, hike, skateboard, bicycle, kayak, play volleyball, tennis, pickleball and toss horseshoes- all for free! Berks County Parks are open for recreation from 8 am to 9 pm in June and July and from 8 am to 8:30 pm in August. Not sure what amenities are located in each park? Check our website to see where the best place is to start your journey or give us a call at the main office at 610-372-8939.
On top of all the opportunities to make your own way, the Berks County Parks & Recreation Department also has programming and special events to help you discover new ways to get moving.
Love being on the water? A yearly favorite is our Intro to Paddleboarding class with Aqua Om, held at Blue Marsh Lake. This year it is on Friday, June 16 at 10:30 am and costs only $20 per person. Register soon at Aqua Om’s website www.aopaddle.com .
Do you like walking your dog? While pets are not allowed on the Union Canal Trail, they are permitted at Antietam Lake and we’re celebrating National Mutt Day there with a Trail Walk on Monday, July 31. It’s FREE and we’re working in partnership with the Animal Rescue League, so bring a new dog toy to donate if you wish!
Getting out is always more fun in groups, so we’re also offering guided hikes as part of the Berks Trail Challenge in association with Tower Health and the Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club. You don’t have to be an avid hiker or walker to join this challenge- all ability levels are welcome! Bi-lingual Trail Challenge Guided Hikes are being offered in Spanish on June 3, June 24, July 15 and August 26 at various trail locations. More info at www.bewellberks.org
This is a small sampling of our programs, but the opportunities are limitless! For more details on these programs or to learn about other upcoming programs, please check out our website www.countyofberks.com/parks or our Facebook page @BerksCountyParks.
We can’t wait to see you in your County Parks!
