With the current attacks against the transgender and drag community throughout the country, Pride serves as a reminder of the struggles and discrimination that members of the LGBTQ+ community have faced -and continue to face-, and it also highlights the resilience and strength of our communities in the face of adversity.
Since 2006, Reading Pride Celebration has been committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion by building a community that embraces and supports differences and seeks to eliminate racial oppression, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and other types of oppression. This year, as we celebrate our 17th anniversary, we have multiple events to celebrate Pride Month:
- June 1st: Pride Flag Raising at West Reading Borough Hall
- June 3rd: First Pride March and Rally starting at Reading’s City Hall
- June 7th – July 16th: LGBTQ+ Art Showcase at the Schmidt Galley at the GoggleWorks
- July 16th: Reading Pride Celebration Festival and Pride After Party at Jim Dietrich Park
- June 25th: Bus Trip to NYC Pride 2023
Celebrating Pride is not only a way to show support for LGBTQ+ individuals, but it is also a way to raise awareness about the challenges that the community still faces.
