In October 2022, Berks County Government released the Imagine Berks Strategic Economic Development plan. This roadmap for the future of Berks County lays out key areas that our community must address in order to meet the future needs of Berks County including our local job market, Land availability, and zoning, address the counties need for housing both new and redeveloped, and promoting the Diversity that has already helped Berks County grow over the last decade and will continue to help Berks County grow into the future.
One of the key focus areas is New Construction and redevelopment of existing properties. Our need for new construction of all kinds is extremely urgent. We also need to redevelop blighted or obsolete properties to benefit the current and future growth needs of Berks County. New Construction can generally be found in developments or scattered sites (Build on your lot) Redevelopment opportunities generally exist in the adaptive reuse of obsolete commercial and industrial properties or blighted homes that fell to neglect or are outdated. With a focused “all in” approach, Imagine Berks will empower our municipalities and townships to identify growth opportunities within their communities thru collaborative partnerships and resource sharing so that our community thrives into the future!
