Have you ever heard of the DAR organization? We are a service organization whose members can trace their ancestry back to someone who fought in the American Revolution or contributed money, food, or clothing, in support of the war effort. Our Berks County Chapter has been operating for 130 years! Our objectives are historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
The Famous Ladies’ Tea is the Berks County Chapter of the DAR’s only annual fundraiser, and it is held to benefit the Good Citizens Scholarship. This scholarship is open to all Berks County high schools that nominate a Senior student, male or female, as their Good Citizen. For more information about this scholarship, please see your high school guidance counselor.
This year’s Famous Ladies’ Tea will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Reading, on April 15th, 2023, starting at 2 PM. If you attend, you will be educated and entertained (and your sweet tooth satisfied) by seven famous ladies of the past.
A couple of this year’s amazing women include Babe Didrikson, an American athlete, and our very own Berks County woman, Ethel Felcher, the first female police officer hired in Reading. The DAR is always looking for reenactors to portray historic women of all cultural backgrounds! If you are interested in volunteering or would like to purchase tickets for this year’s 14th Annual Famous Ladies’ Tea, (cost is $45), please contact Linda Motley at lindamotley@gmail.com.
