Genesius Theatre is a non-profit performing arts theater founded in 1971 and located in Reading. Our theater provides a unique and intimate setting for Broadway-style musicals, drama, and children’s theater, with state-of-the-art lighting and modern effects. The mission of Genesius Theatre is to provide outstanding diverse theater opportunities to the community, educate young people and adults in all aspects of the craft of theater, and produce the highest quality entertainment experience for our guests.
Our upcoming performances include “Disney’s The Lion King Jr.” March 10-19th, “Disenchanted” April 28 – May 7th, “Head Over Heels” June 16 – 25th, “School of Rock” August 11 – 20th, “Clue” October 6 – 15th, and “Funny Girl” December 8 – 17th.

1st Street Players is a small community theater nestled in the heart of Birdsboro. 1st Street Players uplifts the community through imaginative theatrical productions and transformative educational programming, including children’s theatre workshops and free drama clubs after school. We strive to foster a safe space for artists and audiences to connect, collaborate, and create. Upcoming Productions include “Blithe Spirit” March 3rd – 11th, “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jr.” May 4th – 14th, and “9 to 5” June 16th – 24th.

The Reading Theater Project is a locally-focused theater company, based in Berks County. We produce new theater with a focus on the creative process for the artists involved, resulting in a unique production for the audience. We value collaboration and creative challenges and believe theater is an inclusive experience that can reveal our shared human condition.
On Tuesday, March 21, at 6:30pm, tune in to Reading Reading on BCTV where we feature local playwrights and their short plays, performed live on air by actors. Also, join us for the New Play Series this spring in the Boscov Theatre at GoggleWorks in Reading. New plays by regional playwrights will be performed on Thursdays April 16, May 11, and June 15.

The Reading Civic Theatre is a 105+ old theater company that began with a focus on opera and over the years transitioned to an emphasis on musical theater. Our mission statement is to provide high quality educational and theatrical opportunities to individuals of various ages. Within the last year, we were able to move from our rehearsal hall on Tenth Street in downtown Reading to the old Fox theater in Exeter. Our 2023 season includes “Next to Normal” in April, “The Music Man” in June, “Les Miserable – High School Edition” in September, “The Rocky Horror Show” in October – November, and “Christmas Extravaganza” in December.

Reading Community Players is an organization that has been providing quality, affordable live theatre to the Berks County area for more than 100 years. We strive to educate, support and include actors, writers and technicians in the process of creating theatre. Our next on-stage production will be “Plaza Suite” by Neil Simon. The show runs March 31 at 7:00, April 1 at 7:00, and April 2 at 3:00, 2023, at the Baer Memorial Chapel, 39 S. 6th Street, Reading.
The Yocum Institute for Arts Education
We invite people of all ages and backgrounds to be creative and find their confidence on and off the stage. Whether in a class, attending a show in Schumo Theater, a library performance, or in the Parks, we help take the ordinary and turn it into something magical.
We have several exciting performances coming up including “JazzFest for Kids: The Boy at the Edge of Everything” (for ages 6+) held March 25 – 26th, “Kate Hammill’s’ Little Women” (for ages 10+) held May 11 – 14th. Then June 8-11th see “Head Over Heels the Musical” (for ages 13+). On June 24th “Be Curious, Wonderland Adventures!” (For EVERYONE). July 28-30th don’t miss “The SpongeBob Musical, Youth Edition” (for EVERYONE).
