Wesley Butler, Class of 2023, is entering his final semester at Kutztown University where for four years he has maintained the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete title. A student and athlete, he recently added politician to his resume. He inspires young people to serve and gives older people faith in the generation to come.
Wesley majors in Communications Studies and minors in Social Media Analytics. He believes these new skills prepare students for disruptive advances in technology. While playing on Kutztown University’s Men’s Basketball Team, Wesley joined a very exclusive club of athletes who have scored 1,000 points in both high school and college. He is very proud to be one of his team’s captains, leading his team into competition against PSAC colleges and universities. Politically, Butler was sworn in as the youngest City of Reading Councilman in January 2022. Wesley helped distribute approximately five million dollars in American Rescue Plan Act funds to nonprofit organizations. He also proposed and helped pass legislation to improve the quality of life of citizens in Reading.
Wesley loves giving back to the community. He recently celebrated the 45th anniversary of Prospectus Berco, a nonprofit established to provide quality services to adults with intellectual disabilities and special needs in Berks County. Wesley joined employees and program participants and made 45 free throws to celebrate the milestone.
As a student, athlete, and community leader, Wesley Butler is building a bridge by taking the best that Reading offers and envisioning a brighter and better future for all.
