Gregory Smith is a father of four and grandfather of seven and is currently a Production Supervisor at Dana Incorporated in Pottstown. However, Greg is very well known throughout Berks County for his fitness classes.
At age 51, although you can’t physically tell, he has spent the past 24 years building a following of those who love his energy, and style of fitness aerobics. Greg has led consistent classes at all of the popular local gyms in the area as well as hosting specialized events with live DJs in order to add a different feel than other instructors.
Gregory began his fitness career as an Aerobics Instructor/Personal trainer in 1999. His inspiration for becoming a certified instructor came from his former Karate Instructor.
He was able to see the many benefits of exercise, not only physically but also mentally. For Gregory, the choice was an easy one. Gregory is a black man, where 49.9% had the highest age-adjusted prevalence of obesity, with black women having the highest rate of obesity compared to other groups in the United States. About 4 out of 5 black women are overweight. His goal is not only to help them physically but also to help them mentally.
He states that exercise boosts your mood, improves your sleep, and helps you deal with depression, anxiety, and stress. And as a Black man, where he feels that he has a God-given talent to instruct a class, to LEAD PEOPLE WHERE THEY CAN NOT TAKE THEMSELVES, he feels obligated and honored to be that person. Gregory feels he is not only an Aerobics Instructor/Personal Trainer, but he is also a mentor, coach, friend, and motivator. Stay tuned for his fitness pop-ups.
