For Judge Tonya Scott Butler it’s an honor to serve as the Magisterial District Judge in Northeast Reading since 2018. Over the past five years, she has worked to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors in our community, presiding over more than 15,000 cases and assisting residents who need advice and resources.
She also has been busy with many projects, implementing a driver’s safety program for traffic violators and helping create a shadowing/internship program for students interested in a law career. She is also a participating judge in an eviction diversion program in Reading designed to help landlords and tenants resolve disputes. In January, she co-hosted a Second Chances Expungement and Pardon Clinic for members of our community who have improved themselves and want to make a greater contribution to their community
But it’s not all just business in her court, she has presided over hundreds of weddings in the past five years. She stated that weddings represent love, hope, and commitment. She enjoys doing weddings for people of various backgrounds, nationalities, ethnicities, orientations, and beliefs. With every wedding she does, she feels like she has gained new family members.
Judge Butler is committed to the growth of our community. She reminded us that as always, if she can be of any assistance, please let her know. Her Court is located at 2312 Fairmont Avenue, Reading. She can also be reached via email at tbutler@countyofberks.com or by telephone at 610-373-4424. Soon she will be out and about in our neighborhoods asking for your support. And looks forward to seeing everyone again.
