I began my journey in RMCTC unsure of my high school and career goals. I knew I wanted to learn something that would allow me to continue my dreams after graduation. As soon as I stepped foot into the early childhood classroom, I knew where my heart and career pathways would lead.
The year 2020 was very hard for many of us, but I want to thank my early childhood instructor, Mrs. Yobb, for continuously pushing me to complete the goals I’d set for myself. RMCTC has opened various doors of opportunities for me. One opportunity was beginning my dual enrollment with Reading Area Community College during my sophomore year. This program has encouraged me to seek further education beyond high school.
I’m also currently employed at The Goddard School in Wyomissing in the Work-Based Learning program at RMCTC. Mrs. Jennifer Shade, the director, is amazing and has allowed me to expand my knowledge, not only with preschool-age children but with various age groups including infants and toddlers. After high school, I plan to attend college and major in Elementary Education to work towards my goal of becoming a kindergarten teacher.
When I was younger, I told myself I wouldn’t work with kids at all. Now here I am, eight years later, and I’m in love with my career! I chose this career path because working with children has made a positive impact on my life, and I hope to become a teacher that can do the same in a child’s life.
