We are Cory and Nicol Varona, sisters redefining how curly hair products are created to help women love their curls and themselves. We are originally from the Dominican Republic and moved to the United States 20 years ago. We are based in Reading and are proud Reading High School Alumni. We also attended Penn State Berks, and both earned Business degrees.
We always knew we wanted to start a business together but never in a million years thought it would end up being a hair care company. We grew up thinking straightening our hair was the way to be and feel beautiful. We hated our natural texture and due to hair assimilation, we damaged our curly hair. We started DN Organics because we wanted to use premium products with clean ingredients for our curls. A brand that represents Latinas and our beautiful culture. We couldn’t find what we were looking for – so we decided to make our own.
Our ultimate goal is to empower our community. We want to inspire others to dream big and to dig deep into their own challenges so we can find the solutions for the future. We also want to inspire other Latinas to pursue their dreams and know that their current situation will not define their final destination. We are both Dominican immigrants who moved to this country without knowing what the future was going to look like for us. We didn’t let limited beliefs stop us from going after our dreams. We are fortunate to now have a brand that helps others enjoy their natural hair while using clean ingredients.
This year we took on a big project (more on this soon, stay tuned) that has transformed our business and allowed us to grow. Part of owning a small business is learning as we go and taking on advice from other business leaders. We are excited about all the changes we are implementing and how our small business from Reading, PA has continued to grow nationwide. Stay tuned for all the new things coming in 2023.
Our biggest piece of advice for anyone who wants to turn their passion into a business is share your ideas. Your network is your biggest asset. The more people know about you and your ideas the more you will grow.
Curly hair was the door for us to love ourselves and the motivation behind our business. Don’t be afraid to show the world your true unique self. That’s your superpower!
