My name is Jacob DeJesus Ramirez. I attend Reading High School and Reading Muhlenberg CTC. My program of study under Chef Hillard is Baking and Pastry Arts.
I really enjoy my career path in Baking and Pastry Arts. I am currently working on obtaining my ServSafe certification. I hope to have already passed it by the time this article is published. I am especially excited this year to get back to baking as a senior and actually start creating and learning new things. One of my favorite items to bake is macaroons. I also like to make Creme Brule, which was my first interaction with it was using a torch to melt sugar, that was an amazing experience even though it takes time and patience for the product to be done to perfection. I would like to thank Chef Hiliard and Chef Klein for teaching me the art of baking. They are truly an inspiration with their talents.
Along with RMCTC, I am currently working at the Great America Creamery at 645 Penn Street in Reading. I have been working there since February, and it has been an amazing experience. The owners Lucine Sihelnik and her husband Balasios “Saki” Lahaniatis, and co-workers are a delight to work with and are understanding when it comes to teaching us their skills. I do plan to stay there and learn more about business, but I also plan to do more in my career field as well.
My plans for the future are to either go to culinary school or go straight into the baking field full-time. Reading Muhlenberg and the Great American Creamery has given me the skills to take my future anywhere I choose!
