Absolutely yes! The Latino community is slowly ditching the rolos (roller sets) and planchas (flat irons) and instead picking up bonnets and diffusers.
These new generations of young Latinos no longer care about fitting in or following outdated beauty standards. The days of slick hair with no texture have been left behind. Young Latinos are accepting their natural tresses and learning how to work with their curls, coils, and waves.
Individuality and embracing the idea of looking different has also made a huge impact on the way that we see hair. Latinos have learned to appreciate the differences that make us unique and special, this includes our hair. There are no two identical curls on a person’s head and that makes us all different and unique.
The courageous irreverence and fearlessness that the young Latinos have adopted when it comes to their natural texture is contagious. So much that the older generations are following in their footsteps and also embracing their natural textures. The natural hair movement has infiltrated all Latino generations and being part of this movement fills me up with joy.
At the salon we are happy to be a resource for Latinas going through their natural hair journey, giving them guidance and providing education. We will continue to work hard to be a resource and help women continue to embrace their textured hair.
