A Barber’s Second Chance at Life
Do you think society genuinely believes in second chances? Society states they do but truly they prefer to punish someone forever for their mistakes even after someone has paid their debt to society. Sadly, a person who commits a mistake is sometimes marked for life. Some can’t get a job or have to deal with the shame over and over either by family, employers, or co-workers.
Let me introduce you to Serge Vilaire who was given a second chance so now he pays it forward and gives others a second chance. Serge Vilaire, born and raised in New York City. His life took a huge blow when he was incarcerated in 1996 for nine years. While incarcerated, he took the time to become a licensed barber, followed by his license to become a barber manager. Upon being released, he was transferred to Reading PA and had the opportunity to work for Fanee’s Unisex Barbershop. He states that Fanee Brown is a person that he would like to thank for opening the doors for him in 2005.
In 2008, he became the proud owner of ATS barbershop. After a few good years of ownership at ATS barbershop, he decided to attain his barber instructor license. This accomplishment made him follow his dream to open The Reading Barber Institute (RBI) in 2017. This came about when it was realized that many barbershops were employing unlicensed barbers. Today they offer the opportunity to be properly prepared and licensed. Where better to do this than a bilingual barber school that welcomes everyone, yes at-risk men or women because Serge is living proof that ex-offenders deserve a second chance as well.
Last year in 2021, he recently opened an upscale beauty salon called Lily’s Beauty Palace. The future is looking very bright, and he is looking forward to making a continued difference in Reading PA. He welcomes anyone who is dedicated to pursuing their career in barbering. They are also currently looking for loyal and dedicated workers to fill the salon: Nail technicians, hairstylists, and lash technicians. Please contact him, information is provided below.
He truly would like to thank everyone that helped him through this process and was with him every step of the way. He also thanks Palo Magazine for this opportunity to share his story.
