Let’s meet a local Dominican man who brings men’s confidence back with hair units or weaves. The title of this article is “the bald ones are mine” as this is the hashtag that he uses to promote himself among other creative hashtags and has over 60K followers. He is known in the barber world as “Platano Gucci” and he has probably done your neighbor’s hair, the local business owner that you see so sharply put together, your own spouse, the basketball player you see on TV-, or the artist that sings your favorite songs. Yes, he has been traveling the world raising men’s confidence whether they are middle class or rich he brings their smiles back, one hairpiece at a time.
Yes, taupe-style hair is back! At first, I felt weird about it but then I put myself in a man’s situation, and just like women’s hair is super important it also is to many men. When some men go bald, they suffer emotionally but they stay quiet as society makes them think they have to. Hair is a big part of the human identity, and Mr. Gucci knows this and has decided to do something about it.
Oddly enough when I decided to dedicate this year’s June men’s edition to Barbers the name Platano Gucci came up several times, it’s when I realized that this is an especially important part of a man and I needed to touch this delicate topic. I think people must respect a man’s decision to use a man unit just as they do when women change their hair colors constantly or nowadays even wigs are a big part of women, especially in Hollywood. Have you ever seen an artist one day at the Grammy’s with short hair and the next day being interviewed with long hair, it’s because it’s not her hair, we all know that, so why can’t men express themselves in this fashion as well?
I reached out to Mr. Gucci and did a phone interview, and I was excited to learn more. He has tried different things in life as playing all kinds of instruments at church, he had been a DJ, but now he is a barber who transforms lives, and he loves it. He gets to travel the world while doing this and meets lots of great people. Just as the beauty salons transform ladies when their hairstyles and makeup, he is doing it with men. Talking about transformation, Mr. Gucci himself has gone through a transformation as he has lost half of himself in a good way, he has lost about 180 pounds. Congratulations to him on all his accomplishments and may he continue to spread confidence in our men. If you know a baldy send him over to Mr. Gucci.
