Tips for your Gondola Ride in Venice
Visiting the beautiful city of Venice is something that should be on the wish list of any traveler, as is riding in its famous gondolas. It is one of the most symbolic or representative activities of the city, and if you don’t do it, it’s as if you had visited it!
To make your gondola ride easier for you, here I share several suggestions and tips that you should know before embarking on that tour.
1. Prices may be negotiable, and costs vary by area and type of tour.
2. There are two tours available, one is a long tour visiting several key points of the city and the other tour is a little shorter. If you visit the city for the first time, take the long walk because you can see the old house of Marco Polo, Mozart, the Grand Canal, the Rialto Bridge and you will even see the five-star hotel, where George and Amal Clooney stayed for their wedding.
3. Go slowly! The long walk is approximately 40 minutes, and its cost is close to $80 euros. If you want to extend it for another 20 minutes, it has an additional cost of approximately $40 euros. This cost is per gondola, not per person. The maximum amount per gondola is 6 people and you can share this cost.
4. Take the walk in the afternoon, just before nightfall. Why? The gondoliers are done with their day and are more flexible with their prices. Also, the gondola traffic on the canals is less so you can enjoy a slightly calmer and more romantic ride.
5. Let your gondolier know that you want to know about the special stories and tales of Venice. They will offer you information throughout the trip. And if they like you, they might even sing to you!
6. Avoid taking the gondolas in well-touristed areas like the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco.
7. Carry cash (euros) with you. Many gondoliers only accept that method of payment.
