Palo Magazine did a poll on social media to see how many women have given up on heels. We asked: how long ago, how old they were, and why did they give up on them if in fact, they did? Here is the feedback that we got.
Maria Cecilia Cano- At 61, I still wear them, but not as often. When I travel to mi amada Colombia, I have them made of beautiful soft leather. A matching purse is a must for me!
Evelyn Ruiz-I use to dance all night with heels but this pandemic force me to give up on them when I moved to Florida almost 2 years ago.
Dara Colon 42, -I gave them up 2 years ago I had to have reconstructive surgery on my foot and ankle. I hope to be able to strengthen everything in the foot to wear them again. I can do wedge or block heels but there is a time limit.
Jamie Heather- Only wear them if the outfit calls for it and it RARELY calls for it.
Mary Delgado- Well my doctor told me that I wasn’t going to be able to wear heels anymore after my first replacement. But I always believe that a woman with a dress looks more elegant with heels, so I keep using smaller versions of heels.
Damaris Janett Pelker-Gave them up around 40. It hurts my back too much.
Steph Mdn Mdr- 5 years ago. I was 21
Maritza Rodriguez- I have been wearing heels since I was 13 years old…loved them. They made me feel sexy…I could work in them all day. Dance in them all night and even run if I had to! Fast forward to now that I’m 60…not so much! I have neuropathy from my diabetes and some other concerns.
Gigi Reyes- I don’t wear them as often as I used to. I discovered how practical sneakers could be when you have little ones. Also, sneakers are so trendy and fashionable now that I could even dress them up.
Elizabeth Laviena- Will never give up on the heels.
Marissa Guidara- I never wore them.
Altamar Kaily – I’m 38 and haven’t worn them in 3 years, due to my chronic back pain.
Alba Luz Fernandez- I still wear them on occasion but wedge heels to go to work every day!
Roxy JJ- Me…I can rock them on occasions but that’s it. Maybe once a year.
Well, I will tell you that I myself Rosa Julia Parra, love how beautiful many heels look. They make me feel more powerful entering a room, just like my lipstick does but now that I’m 49 I do what Oprah does. I heard she walks around in her slippers the entire time until she has to come on stage or go somewhere. I thought that makes sense so I will use my heels for events but always have flats in my car and switch them out as soon as I get back in my car. I also now pay attention to certain things when purchasing them. If I see that they don’t have a lot of toe space in the front, and the heels are crazy high I just walk away from them no matter how cute they look.
I’m not a doctor but they say wearing heels for a long time is linked to a long list of injuries and they can weaken the muscles and the tendons in your legs, ankles, and feet. So, find shoes that are cute but that still love your feet.
