We are just around the corner from a new Thanksgiving celebration. What is your focus? Food, parties, travel, days off? It causes me great sadness to see how each year this beautiful celebration, which is supposed to be one of sharing, family unity, & gratitude has become one with a totally different and commercialized meaning.
We see the famous “Early Black Friday Sales” creating chaos in people who run from one place to another totally desperate, focused on buying that ideal gift, trying to save one or another dollar which in turn is ironic because they end up spending triple the amount that was planned. Buying for the excitement and effusiveness of the moment and not out of necessity. People fighting, insulting each other, and even hitting each other for something materialistic.
We also see how the bond of family unity has been broken, the tradition of gathering around the table for dinner as large companies force their employees to work and sacrifice that time to share. You know what? We are all responsible because by sponsoring these sales and we are robbing employees of the opportunity and time to spend with the family. If only we would stop for a moment to think…. nothing material can buy the happiness of having the family reunited together. That is the best gift! It is time to stop this and start giving back this day its true meaning: Thanksgiving Day and not Turkey Shopping Day.
Thank God because throughout the year his provision has come to your home, and you have not missed anything. He as a Father who loves us will always give us what we need and not what we want. God bless you and Happy Thanksgiving!
