Last month in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month Norman Bristol Colon brought once again the 4th Edition of the Latino Convention to the DoubleTree Hotel in Reading, Pennsylvania. The convention was full of cultural celebrations, exhibits, programs, and awards.
Talking about awards Pina Ugliuzza was recognized for her years of support and dedication to the community as part of the HGSK Law Firm. Congratulations to Pina, and many others such as Reading’s first Latino Mayor Eddie Moran, Reading First Latino State Rep. Manuel Guzman, and Berks County’s first Latino County Commissioner Michael Rivera who all received awards for their work in the community. Congratulations to all.
I would like to repost a piece that was written by Norman Bristol Colon about Pina some time ago but is still relevant to what she has accomplished today:
From a Kitchen Table to offices throughout Pennsylvania
“At age 24, Pina Ugliuzza was confronted with the challenge of helping her factory worker, Italian immigrant father navigate the legal system after an accident at work. Not knowing what workers’ compensation was, her injured father reported to work with a cast on his leg. The circumstances made the connection between Pina and a law firm out of Philadelphia-better know today as HGSK Law Firm.
Her personal situation inspired Pina to help others facing a similar situation. From her kitchen table, she began assisting and translating for Italian immigrants seeking inside to their legal rights. In 1991, the law firm offered her a job. She has risen to become the firm’s Director of Regional Development. Pina not only has helped in driving regional growthy, she helped in shaping the firm as a preeminent law firm with a social conscient for a community service.
With the Slogan “The Community’s Lawyers,” HGSK is involved in the civic life of every community where an office is located. HGSK serves a diverse community with office in Philadelphia, Allentown, Reading, Lancaster, Hazleton, Kennett Square, Shillington and Holland. For 30 years, the firm has featured a bilingual staff and the experience needed to understand each case and the individuals involved.
From a kitchen table, a mission of compassion and service continues to grow with the community.” -Norman Bristol Colon
