Summertime, Sun, and Music are in the air. It’s finally time to hit the pool/beach and to have some carnitas with those we love. During this time as you head out make sure to be thankful for the year and your blessings. Even with everything that has happened since the last summer we as a community of immigrants have much to be thankful for.
For those who have not been paying attention the following has happened:
- Venezuelans received TPS designation allowing them to obtain a work authorization and stay in the country.
- Haitians received a new TPS designation allowing for Haitians that were too late for the last designation to TPS to now apply for the program and obtain their work authorizations and licenses.
- DACA was re-opened not only for renewals but for initial applications for those who qualify.
- Government Attorney’s for Immigration courts were allowed once again to use discretion to choose which cases not to prosecute a power that was taken away during the Trump Era.
- Immigration reform is back on the table.
Besides those positive changes to the immigration laws that we are seeing taking place in the country, we are also seeing an increase in the number of people who have been vaccinated from Covid-19, and with that a re-opening of many of the activities that we like to do. We have also experienced a year of many opportunities for business owners and entrepreneurs to start their own businesses many from the comforts of their homes. This brings me to an important tip.
If you are an immigrant and are having trouble finding work due to your immigration status starting a business whether online or local may be the best solution until you can obtain work authorization!
