I want to recognize my cousin Carmen Galvan who is part of the LGBTQ+ community. The reason I want to recognize her is that she came out when it wasn’t popular to do so and when you were treated way differently for doing so. I commend her for having the guts to do it especially because she is from my dad’s side of the family and they grew up with lots of machismo.
I want to double recognize her for also stepping up to the plate and adopting one of my cousins when she was just a few days old. She stepped up during a family situation and gave this little girl a home and lots of love. She made sure she was loved, and she supported her through different sports such as softball, dancing, and singing. Justina graduated from High School & now has a chance and that is thanks to my cousin Carmen. She did this knowing it would change her whole life around. She also currently has a wife and partner that she married a few years back and that has helped her raise her daughter. I wish them nothing but the best and blessings for being such great human beings.
