My name is Hugo Garcia-Gonzalez. I am currently employed with High Steel Structures and Thaddeus Stevens College both based out of Lancaster, Pa. My job at High Steel consists of training all the new hires and maintaining all the weld qualifications of the new and tenured employees. I work with third-party inspectors to certify my trainees with AWS, NY, and NYC certifications. High Steel Structures is also allowing me to obtain my degree in Business Management Administration. At Thaddeus Stevens College, I am the Adult welding instructor. I help my students train in a high-demand career that will allow them to grow. When I’m not working or doing college assignments, I am spending all my time with my daughter! We enjoy spending time with family and being outdoors.
I graduated from the Welding Technology Program at Reading Muhlenberg CTC in 2013. I had a great head start in the welding field. My Instructor Dan Millan was not only my instructor but a great mentor. He continues to check on me, and that says a lot! Reading Muhlenberg not only gave me my career but also allowed me to obtain a welding job as a CO-OP my junior through senior year in high school. This gave me the leg up as a student and if I ever ran into something at work that I didn’t know how to do, I was able to follow up with my instructor and learn it.
In 2015, I started teaching at Lebanon CTC. When I was contacted about teaching, I was hesitant. I felt as if I was not prepared but Mr. Millan talked me into it and I’m glad he did. This change was the path that led me to where I am today. It’s my turn to give back as the staff at Reading Muhlenberg did for me!
