It was on December 7, on the ending of a semester of a class at the University of Puerto Rico and once finals were done the group had planned a party. When I left class, a young man who had interested me since the first time I saw him in class asked me if I was going to the party. It was the first time he had spoken to me. When his gaze locked with mine it was pure magic. It seemed to me that I had known him all my life.
My parents wouldn’t let me go out alone, so I sought help from my sister and my brother-in-law to take me. My brother-in-law was late picking me up and I thought that when we would arrive to the party the handsome young man would not be there. To my surprise he was there and as soon as he saw me, he came over and asked us to sit at his table. The small group that was left decided to take one of their classmates to the town of Aibonito. I asked my sister if we could tag along but that I was going to go in the car with the young man who captivated me. We went to Aibonito and the love of two souls was born, as one particular song says, we were united by God.
From that moment we did not separate. In less than four months we were married, and our union lasted for 47 years. Only death with its great power separated us. I feel extremely fortunate to have lived such an intense and genuine love at first sight in this existence. Yes, love at first sight exists and can be lifelong and eternal. Rest in Peace to my Soul Mate.
