My name is Pavel Placido, I work in Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation as an Exercise Physiologist at NYU Langone Health for the past 3 years. My job consists of Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing and prescribing exercise for patients who have suffered any heart-related issues or pulmonary disease. I monitor patients’ ECG and blood pressures while they exercise and progress them throughout their rehabilitation. I also provide education and instruction to patients to ensure adherence to a physically active life post-rehabilitation.
I graduated from the Health – Medical Professions program at RMCTC in 2011. In the Health – Medical Professions program we were taught medical terminology and abbreviations, which became a second language that I still refer to today. Learning medical terminology and abbreviations while still in high school gave me an advantage when completing my degrees and working in the medical field. The practical skills gained at RMCTC like bed transfers and wheelchair transfers are vital to safe patient handling. Learning them early on made applying them quite easy when I entered the medical field.
RMCTC placed me with my first job in the medical field as a patient care assistant where I immediately applied these skills and felt confident as a clinician. Mrs. Tamayo always expected more from her students. The confidence she had in her students made me feel like I could do anything that I set my mind to. RMCTC has genuinely and positively impacted my life and I will forever be grateful for this.
