New year new me, right?!?! After dealing with months of lockdowns and strict rules of navigating this pandemic, we could all use a little change to lift our spirits and help us look and feel our best. It’s time to say goodbye to COVID-19 hair and start the year off on the right foot.
One way to change things up is by enhancing our curls with highlights, lowlights, or changing our hair color all together. But how can we color our curls safely without compromising the health of our hair? The truth is that hair color is a chemical and therefore will have an effect on your hair.
Box dye is an inexpensive way to color hair at home, but sometimes it can cause more harm than good. Oftentimes box dyes have metallic salts that damage the hair. The dark colors are hard to remove from the hair and it makes it incredibly challenging to go from dark to light. Additionally, box dyes contain strong chemicals that can change the hair’s elasticity and as a result loosen the hair’s natural texture.
Whether you choose to venture out and color your hair yourself at home or go to a hair stylist, the goal should be to change the hair’s color while minimizing damage and maintaining the hair’s integrity. Be patient, color your hair safely and enjoy the results!
